Music Program
Music education enhances learning, communication skills, creativity, teamwork, discipline, cultural awareness, respect of others, and self- esteem through personal accomplishment.
The music program at Bishop O’Connell High School offers a variety of courses in music taught by music specialists. Classes such as Music Technology, Piano Seminar and AP Music Theory provide opportunities for all students attending O’Connell to experience music. In addition, two levels of guitar classes are offered.
Numerous performance opportunities are available in our many large and small vocal and instrumental ensembles. Yearly concerts include a fall concert, a Winter and Holiday concert in December, Piano and Guitar Showcase concerts in January and May, a Pre-Assessment concert in March, and our April Spring concerts and showcases. O'Connell is proud to offer three different vocal ensembles, including Concert Choir, the O’Connell Singers Women's honors choir, and the O'Connell Knights Men's Choir. O'Connell's instrumental program offerings include two levels of Guitar classes, as well as Orchestra, Concert/Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band -- all of which are also offered for honors credit.
