Bishop O’Connell High School relies on tuition and the generous philanthropic support of our community to (1) balance the annual operating budget, (2) fund capital and special projects, (3) establish and sustain the long-term fiscal viability of the school. O'Connell advancement programs seek to secure financial support for the school through annual giving, event participation, and major and planned gifts. The generosity of the O'Connell community is the difference between a "good" Catholic education and the exceptional experience our students receive during their time here.
Decades ago, O'Connell received funds from feeder parishes and the Arlington Diocese to help balance our budget and sustain our mission. Today, those funding sources are greatly reduced or gone, and O'Connell must fund its entire operational budget through a combination of tuition and fundraising. The revenues generated from your tax-deductible donations make it possible for us to keep tuition increases to a minimum, and help to bridge the "gap" between what we charge for tuition and the actual cost to operate the school and educate a student at O'Connell.
Booster, PTO, athletic and team activities provide ways for parents to get involved in the O'Connell community. Funds raised through these programs and activities are important, but they do not help to keep tuition affordable for all families or help to bridge the "gap" between tuition revenue and the school's operational costs. Only gifts to the Knight Fund, Gala and Golf Tournament do that.
We are incredibly grateful to the legions of alumni, parents and friends who over the years have stretched in their support of our mission. Our donors keep Bishop O'Connell strong and thriving, and for that, we thank you.
