How do I access Magnus to upload health documents?

Magnus is accessed through the MyDJO Parent Portal.  Login information is emailed to parent/guardian on file not long after enrollment.  Please use the parent information and not the student information to access MyDJO. Once you have logged into the portal, you can find the the link to Magnus via the “Canvas, Magnus, PowerSchool, FACTS & Naviance” tab. The Magnus icon is an orange M.

Can I email or drop off the required paperwork at school?

No, please upload and submit the requested paperwork into the online Magnus system.  This protects the privacy and confidentiality of your student’s information.

Does my Freshman or transfer student need a physical even if they’re not participating in sports?

Yes, every student who is new to the school must submit a physical for review prior to school starting.  Please use the Diocesan Physical Exam Form for school entry. 

I’m having trouble finding my student’s vaccine record.  Can they start school without it?

No.  Please work with your medical provider to receive a vaccine record.

Does Bishop O’Connell accept religious exemption forms for vaccines?

Yes. Please email the clinic for more information at clinic@bishopoconnell.org.

Nothing has changed on our student's action plan. Can we use the same plan as last year?

No. The allergy action plan has to be updated each year and signed by a medical provider.

I don’t want my student to self-carry their emergency medication.  Can it be stored in the clinic?

No. School policy is for all students to  "self carry" their auto injectors as our campus is large and time is of the essence if there is an accidental exposure. Please discuss as a family the importance of self-carrying the medication.  A back-up auto-injector can be stored in the clinic. 

Can my student self-carry Benadryl in case of an accidental exposure?

No. Students should come to the clinic where we stock generic Benadryl caplets if they have an accidental exposure for which they feel they do not need to use their epinephrine auto-injector. 

My student plays a sport - will the coach know about the allergy action plan?

It’s important that you and your student communicate with the coach about the allergy action plan and what to do in an emergency.  Please contact the Athletic Department with any questions at athletics@bishopoconnell.org.

My student has a medication authorization form for Ibuprofen from last academic year.  Is it still good for this new year?

No, the medication authorization form has to be renewed annually.  

My child needs Ibuprofen about once a month.  Does a medical provider have to sign a medical authorization form?

No, for “as needed” use that does not exceed four consecutive days, a medical provider signature is not needed.  A parent signature is needed.

I’d like my student to self-carry an OTC medication with them during the school day.  Is that allowed?

No.  Per school policy, students are not allowed to self-carry OTC or prescription medications. This policy is in place for everyone’s safety. The only exceptions are for emergency medications. 

I have a question about required forms for sports try-outs.  Who should I talk to?

Why was my sports physical rejected?

Please read the email you received as it has a reason for the rejection,. Contact the athletic trainers with additional questions at athletictrainers@bishopoconnell.org.

My student is not going to participate in sports this year, even though he or she did last year.  How do I remove the sports requirements from the Magnus chart?

In Magnus, review the “Conditional Questions” and answer “no” as needed for the sports related questions. 

Can I submit a physical signed by a medical provider located outside of the United States?

Yes, however the paperwork has to be in English.  Documentation in a language other than English will not be accepted.

Required vaccines for school entry are different from where I live.  Do I still need to receive the required vaccines?

Yes, the state of Virginia requires a certain amount of vaccines for school entry.  Please work with your medical provider to obtain the required vaccines.
