Celebrating Our 60th Anniversary
Alumni Greeters Welcome Back Students - As a part of our 60th anniversary celebration, an enthusiastic group of alumni greeters battled early morning Northern Virginia traffic and some rain to welcome 1,100 DJO Knights on the first day of the 2017-2018 school year. We were proud to have had every decade represented - and especially appreciative of the participation of some of our graduates from 1961 - O'Connell's first graduating class.
Marking the Original Opening Day - On Sep. 7, we marked the 60th anniversary of the opening of Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School, with a morning Mass and a sock-hop inspired lunch for all. Students, faculty and former faculty enjoyed burgers, fries, milk shakes and birthday cake, with music straight from the 1950s helping set the mood. Read more and view photos...

Homecoming is October 27-28, 2017 - We are celebrating our 60th Anniversary and we hope you will make plans to join us for a special Homecoming weekend:
- Friday, Oct. 27 - Alumni Achievement Awards & Athletic Hall of Fame. CLICK HERE to see who is being honored this year.
- Saturday, Oct. 28 - Mass of Remembrance - Remember your classmates and loved ones at a special Mass in the school chapel.
- Saturday, Oct. 28 - Varsity Football Game - Enjoy an afternoon of O'Connell football and stop by the alumni tent inside the stadium for a special DJO commemorative gift for all alumni.

60 Hour Service Challenge - Over 3,000 hours have already been pledged! In honor of Bishop O'Connell High School's 60th Anniversary, we invite all members of the O'Connell family (students, alumni, parents, faculty members, and friends) to pledge 60 hours of service to their neighborhood, to their community, to their church, to those in need. Alumna Receives Villanova Award
Catherine Keating '80 recently received the St. Thomas of Villanova Alumni Medal from the Villanova University Alumni Association (VUAA). Keating is 1984 graduate of Villanova University and holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia. She is also the 2015 recipient of the Bishop O'Connell Distinguished Alumni Award. Find out more...
On Stage and Under the Sea
Allen Fitzpatrick '72 is currently touring with the stage production of Disney's The Little Mermaid. This summer, the company performed at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Va.
European League MVP
Jason Clark '08 was named MVP of the Belgium-Euromillions basketball league, where he averaged more than 17 points per game for the Port of Antwerp Giants. Clark was a standout player for the O'Connell Knights before continuing his pursuits as a student-athlete at Georgetown University. He has been playing professionally in Europe since 2012, and he will be returning to Port of Antwerp for the 2017-2018 season. Go Giants! Read more...
Extraordinary Teen Award
Jessica Gliot '17 was named an Extraordinary Teen by Arlington Magazine and was featured in their July/August 2017 magazine. Gliot is a talented vocalist who shared her talents through O'Connell's music and theater department, and as a cantor at St. James in Falls Church. She is also an accomplished seamstress who tirelessly designed and constructed costumes for DJO theater productions, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She is currently studying musical theater at DeSales University. Read more...
