Football Game Recaps

Game 9 vs. Fork Union Military Academy Blue Devils, Oct. 27

Traveling a long way to take on the FUMA Blue Devils, the Knights put up a battle from the first whistle. This was a physical football game with a ton of big hits, and a major defensive battle making it a close game. Both offenses struggled to get things going. Junior running back, Darius Brown plowed his way on the ground and scored the lone touchdown for the Knights! The Knights had an opportunity for a game-winning drive with 1:54 left, but were unable to capitalize falling to the Blue Devils 7-12.

Game 10 vs. Paul IV Panthers, Nov. 1

This was the cross-town rivalry that lived up to all the hype, despite knowing that these two teams would have to turn around and play each other the following week in the WCAC Semifinals. At the half, the score was 3-7 in favor of the Panthers. The Knights defense held the Panthers in check until late in the third quarter when the Panthers marched down the field and made the score 3-14.  The Knights continued their struggles on offense and were unable to capitalize on drives. The Panthers iced the game late in the fourth with a touchdown run. Freshman Safety, Bryce Jackson eclipsed the 100 tackle mark this game!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE - The Knights faced the Panthers again last night in the WCAC playoffs. This time the outcome favored the Knights...DJO 35, PVI 33! NEXT UP - Come cheer them on in the WCAC Metro Division championship at Catholic University on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 1 PM.

Volleyball WCAC Honors and Dig Pink!

On Oct. 22, the O'Connell volleyball team held their annual "Dig Pink" game to honor and support breast cancer survivors and victims. They raised a total of $2,350 and donated the proceeds to the Side-Out Foundation located in Fairfax. The Side-Out Foundation is an American non-profit breast cancer charity that raises awareness and funds for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, read here for more info. Mrs. Millora-Brown also helped the girls in making tie blankets for breast cancer patients going through chemotherapy, as they often get cold during treatments. The blankets were taken to area hospitals for use by all cancer patients :) Great job ladies...GO KNIGHTS!
