Kairos is a four-day, three-night retreat built on the theme of: "Who am I and how do I build a relationship with God?" Through the retreat, students are able to take the time to step back and look at how God interacts with us on a personal level. It aims to give teenagers practical ways to see and experience Jesus in their everyday life.
Students will participate in large group settings for presentations, meals, and sharing. Students will be assigned to single-sex small groups, which are co-led by one adult and one student member of the team.
Location: Camp St. Charles, 15375 Stella Maris Dr., Newburg, MD 20664
Students arrive at school with luggage/supplies and drop their belongings in the Chapel hallway before the 7:45 bell. Retreatants will be leaving school at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. We will return to school on Sunday at 2 p.m., when Father Thompson will celebrate the Sunday Mass for all of us.
Payment: The cost of the retreat is $250. Payment is due at the time of registration and can be made via the permission form. If you prefer to send in a check, please make it payable to Bishop O'Connell. If you need financial assistance, please see Mr. Fitzpatrick. We do not want money to be the reason someone does not attend.
Things to bring: Snack foods for the snack room. Don't forget beverages!
Clothing: Comfortable and conservative. Check the weather forecast. We will be outside.
Personal items: Toiletries (things to shower and keep yourself clean. Don't forget a towel.), bedding (a sleeping bag and pillow is fine), footwear (sneakers are fine. One of the main meeting rooms is carpeted and the site has asked us not to wear outdoor shoes on it. If you have slippers or something like that, bring them.)
Things NOT to bring: Cell phones, iPods, radios, etc. Contacting friends and family during the retreat can be a distraction from the retreat experience.
Discipline: Students are expected to follow the Bishop O'Connell High School discipline policy, which will be enforced by the adult leaders.
