DSW/Camden Retreat

DeSales Service Works is a project of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. DSW exists to impact the lives of others and to Live Jesus! We provide opportunities for face-to-face service, and we work to change the lives of those we serve and to expand the mindset of those who serve. All of our efforts seek to improve struggling neighborhoods while recognizing the goodness of these impoverished communities.

Service retreats offer people of all ages the opportunity to get away, reflect, pray and serve people in need. All retreat themes are rooted in the core teaching of St. Francis de Sales and involve direct service, facilitated reflection, presentations on Catholic social teaching, prayer and opportunity to celebrate Eucharist. Volunteers come to do much-needed, practical service in a very poor community. They serve, pray, reflect, and recreate while living in the DSW community.

Students arrive at school with luggage/supplies and drop their belongings in the Chapel hallway before the 7:45 bell. Retreatants will be leaving at the end of the school day on Thursday. We will return to school on Sunday at approximately 5:00 pm.

Payment: The cost of the retreat is $250. Payment is due at sign-up. Please make checks payable to Bishop O’Connell. Please see one of the leaders if you need financial assistance. We do not want money to be the reason someone does not attend.

Things to bring:

Clothing: comfortable and conservative. Check the weather. Service is outside rain or shine.
Personal items: toiletries (towel, toothbrush, etc.), bedding (sleeping bag and a pillow is fine).

School work: Students are responsible for all work missed while on the retreat. Students should check with their teachers before the retreat to make arrangements for making up missed work. DSW may not be used as an excuse for incomplete work.

Discipline: Students are expected to follow the Bishop O’Connell High School discipline policy, which will be enforced by the Adult Leaders.

Registration and contact information: To secure a spot on this retreat, please contact Mr. Fitzpatrick at efitzpatrick@bishopoconnell.org or visit Campus Ministry.
