Rowing

Crew

In 1996, the beloved Principal Emeritus Al Burch founded Bishop O'Connell High School's crew or rowing team. Our team comprises Men's and Women's Varsity and Novice Squads and welcomes everyone, at all levels of experience. We practice on the Potomac River out of Thompson Boat Center, adjacent to the Georgetown Waterfront, where you can enjoy the stunning views of famous landmarks like the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Memorial while rowing. Our team trains tirelessly during winter, preparing for the spring season when we compete in numerous local and regional regattas, including traveling to the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, the largest high school regatta in the world. Bishop O'Connell High School Rowing is the proud trophy holder of the Thomas V. Dowd Cup as 2023 champions in the Girls Second Four at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta and of the Freshman's Cup as 2023 Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Rowing Association (WMIRA) champions in the Freshman Boys Four.

Are you ready to take your athleticism to the next level? Joining the rowing team offers an unparalleled opportunity for physical fitness, teamwork, and personal growth. Rowing is not just about strength; it requires precision, endurance, and mental toughness. On the rowing team, you'll develop lifelong skills that extend far beyond the sport.
