Bishop O’Connell has named Anthony (Tony) Uccillini as the head coach of the school’s softball program.
"Coach Tony Uccillini has been an integral part of the success of the softball team for several years,” said Athletic Director Joe Wootten. “His knowledge, his approach, and passion for O'Connell softball is evident when he is on the field or is simply talking about the program and team. I am confident he will follow in the steps of his predecessors as a great mentor and leader for our storied softball program."
Uccillini, also known as Coach “T,” has been an assistant coach under Coach Suzy Willemssen for the past six seasons. When he’s not coaching softball at O’Connell, he serves as a middle school health and P.E. teacher in the Fairfax County Public School system, where he also has experience coaching softball, golf and football. He holds a B.S. in Education (Health & P.E.) from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.
“It is an unbelievable honor to become the next head softball coach for the Bishop O’Connell Knights,” he said. “The tradition and standards of this program are unmatched, and I look forward to challenging myself and the athletes in upholding these standards. We will strive each and every day to be the best versions of ourselves in the classroom, on the field, and in the community.”
