Bishop O’Connell High School has named Brennan Steedman as head coach of the Knights’ Crew Program.
Coach Steedman joins Bishop O’Connell after serving as Varsity Girls Crew Coach during the 2025-26 season, helping lead the program to one of the most successful campaigns in recent school history. Under his leadership, the team captured the Bishop Cup, finished third at the WMIRA Championships, saw the Senior 4+ qualify for the Stotesbury Cup Regatta semifinals for the first time in 10 years, and the Junior 4+ finish along the nation’s top crews at Scholastic Nationals.
"I'm excited to step into the head coaching role and continue to build on the strong tradition of Bishop O'Connell Crew," said Steedman. "Since I served as a coach last year, I know the dedication of our student-athletes and the support of our school community. I look forward to building a culture of hard work, teamwork, and competitive excellence to the sport."
In addition to coaching at O’Connell, Coach Steedman serves as coach at TBC Racing, working with athletes from the middle school Learn-to-Row program through U19 competitors. During his tenure, he guided the club’s U17 Boys squad to the first undefeated season in program history.
Prior to Bishop O’Connell, Coach Steedman served as Varsity Women’s Coach at St. John’s College High School from 2021 to 2024, leading the program to its most successful season in school history, including its first-ever finals appearances at both the Stotesbury Cup Regatta and Scholastic Nationals. He also helped senior athletes earn opportunities to compete at the NCAA Division I Level.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Steedman as Head Coach of O’Connell’s crew program,” said Athletic Director Joe Wootten. “He has done an excellent job as Varsity Girls Crew Coach, and we know he will continue to be a great asset to our athletics organization."
Coach Steedman previously served as an assistant coach for the University of Maryland’s Men’s Crew Program, working with recruits and walk-ons while helping the team achieve one of its most successful seasons in program history. Coach Steedman graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.A. in Computer Science.
