Music Trip Success

Eighty-three members of the Bishop O’Connell music program traveled to Orlando, Fla. last weekend to participate in the WorldStrides Heritage Performance competition and adjudication festival. O’Connell competed in the 2A Division, as a medium sized high school. All seven ensembles received tremendous comments from nationally renowned judges. Below is a list of each ensembles placement and medal rating in their division:

Orchestra - 1st place, Gold rating. This ensemble received the Adjudicator’s Award for scoring 92 or above, and Outstanding Group Award for earning the highest instrumental score at the festival. They also received an invitation to the Festival of Gold in Nashville or Chicago.

O’Connell Singers - 1st place, Gold rating. With a score of 92 or above, this ensemble received an invitation to the Festival at Carnegie Hall. 

Symphonic/Concert Band - 2nd place, Bronze rating.

Jazz Band - 2nd place, Bronze rating.

Men’s Choir - 2nd place, Silver rating.

Women’s Camerata - 2nd place, Silver rating.

Chamber Singers - 2nd place, Silver rating.

Ovation Award for outstanding solo contribution - Sydney Smith
