Congratulations to the Bishop O'Connell softball team who won both the Virginia Independent Schools (VIS) state championship and the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) title this year.
The Lady Knights defeated Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 3-0 on Friday, May 18 in Petersburg, Va. to capture the state title.
"I could not be more pleased," said coach Tommy Orndorff. "Tori [Finucane] and Jillian [Ferraro] were givens from day one, but so many other players stepped up during the course of the season."
"Our players stayed focused throughout, and that speaks well of the character of this team. I am so very, very proud of each and every one of them," he added.
The team also moved up to 10th place in the country according to the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association/USA Today poll.
