Congratulations to the Bishop O'Connell cross country and track coach, Cindy Walls, who has been named by MileStat.com as one of the top ten cross country coaches in Virginia.
Coach Walls is currently the head coach of the O'Connell cross country and track programs. Over the past eight years, she has coached the girls cross country team to numerous championships, including five conference titles, five Arlington titles, and four Viriginia Independent Schools (VIS) titles.
"The [O'Connell] program continues to be viewed as one of the top cross country programs in the state," said Coach Walls. "My desire is to have a group of athletes who remain committed to the program, each other and their coaches. The athletes will always respect the sport, have a willingness to embrace all workouts and look forward to testing their limits when racing."
"Coach Walls simply brings excellence to everything she does," remarked O'Connell Athletic Director Joe Wootten. "She has the knack for bringing out the best in all of her athletes, and we are fortunate to have such a knowledgable, professional, and excellent teacher as our coach!"
When she is not coaching at O'Connell, Coach Walls is a private counselor, specializing in grief and recovery. She is married to her husband John for 32 years and has four children. Her two youngest daughters, Christine Walls '05 and Katie Walls '09, both ran for the Lady Knights and continued running in college.
"I coach because I absolutely love having the chance to help young people develop into positive and productive adults," said Coach Walls. "It is a privilege to have this opportunity."
