HEAD COACH

Chris Jennings

Coach Jennings is an experienced professional soccer coach who has trained and developed an assortment of skillful players across the DC Metro Area. Jennings enters his second season with Bishop O'Connell in 2013 after leading the Knights to their first-ever VISAA State Tournament berth in 2012. He also serves as a boys team coach with Braddock Road Elite Travel Soccer, District/Academy coach in the Virginia Olympic Development Program (ODP), D.C. United Academy Camps trainer and is the Technical Director for NXT Level Futbol Academy (www.NXTLevelFutbol.com).

His invaluable experience in both the youth and professional soccer ranks has provided an outstanding platform for him to teach players and help them achieve their goals. Jennings spent time with the NY/NJ Metrostars (NY Red Bulls) before moving on to D.C. United where he focused on soccer programs and youth club relations. His additional coaching experience includes work with the New Jersey Youth Soccer Association and Arlington Soccer Association.


ASSISTANT COACHES
Vassar Cates
Cates has immense experience developing top youth players and is originally from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in Texas. He has experience working with US Youth Soccer Technical Director - Sam Snow and as a staff coach with the North Texas Olympic Development Program (ODP). His professional playing experiences include time with the Dallas Sidekicks and Vietesse - both of the Professional Arena Soccer League. Vassar currently works as a team coach with Braddock Road Elite Travel Soccer and serves as an instructor with the D.C. United Camp program. His past coaching experience also include a spell with Alexandria Soccer Association (VA) and Fort Worth FC (TX). Cates' wife, Emma Wright, serves as an assistant coach for the women's program at George Washington University.
Nelson Maldonado

Maldonado joins the O'Connell Knights staff for the 2013 season. Nelson looks to contribute to the future success of his alma mater ('12) in a number of ways. His previous playing experience includes time with Braddock Road Elite Travel Soccer and the NOVA Royals (PDL & Super-Y). In 2012, Maldonado was 2nd team All-WCAC and earned the O'Connell Boys Soccer Coaches' Award for his dedication and commitment to the program.
