Bishop O’Connell High School has named Kyle Padgett as its new head baseball coach.
Coach Padgett comes to O’Connell with experience as a Division I college assistant coach, most recently with the Duke Blue Devils. He previously coached at William & Mary, and as a volunteer coach at Wake Forest. He also has experience coaching in the Cape Cod Baseball League, and has mentored 42 players who have gone on to play professional baseball.
Padgett, a native of Needham, Mass., was a four-year letterman and infielder at William and Mary, where he earned a B.S. in Kinesiology in 2005. He was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 2005 MLB draft and reached the High-A level before beginning his career as an NCAA coach.
Padgett is currently working on his Masters of Education in Athletic Administration.
“We are very fortunate to have Kyle Padgett take over the reins of O’Connell baseball,” said Athletic Director Joe Wootten. “He brings a wealth of knowledge from his collegiate experience that will benefit all of our student-athletes. His experience, enthusiasm and his rapport with players made him the choice to lead our program.”
There will be a meeting for players and parents to meet Coach Padgett on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. in the school library.
