Boys Varsity Basketball Active in The Community

The Boys Varsity Basketball team has been very busy lending a hand in the community since the beginning of the season. Two weeks ago, the varsity players hosted a free youth clinic The team demonstrated at the clinic and than worked with a group of 20 kids at each basket. Each player worked on a skill such as finishing school, moves on the move, stationary moves and ball handling drills. Over 700 plus young players were in attendance.

Last Sunday, the team visited the Ronald McDonald House; Which serves as a free home away from home for families who have sick children with long hospital stays. The Knights cooked and served dinner to the families staying at the house, and also cleaned the house so the families could focus on their child's recovery. Way to show kindness and humility in this Christmas Season!

The DJO Basketball Club has also started up and their first meeting was Nov 15, O'Connell students, including members of the boys and girls varsity basketball teams came together to do drills, learn new skills, and shoot some baskets. The club meets every Wednesday. GO KNIGHTS!

Coach Wootten is a big supporter of the community, so much so, as he hosts free youth clinics year round to give back to surrounding coaches. Last week, he instructed at a free clinic for Vienna Youth, HCYP, St. Raphael CYO, and Northern VA CYO coaches. Great Job, Coach!

Royalette Seniors Dance in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

In between rehearsals, they even sneaked in some shopping! Performing in the parade is a 30+ year tradition for the Royalettes.

Ice Hockey Friday Night Chills

Friday, Nov. 17th was a night to remember. The Varsity Ice Hockey team took on big rival and state champs Stone Bridge High School in a fun-filled atmosphere at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington. The Knights crushed the Bulldogs with a 6-2 win! The stands were packed with more than 500 fans, including 350 O-Zone students, making this the largest crowd to ever watch a regular season DJO hockey game! Check out these videos from the fan section. Goals were scored by Cooper Corbett(2), Ben Gibbons, Jake Smith, Keenan Murphy, and Daniel Koester. Assists were provided by Victor Musoke(3), Daniel Koester(2), Alex Vouras, and Cam Nemati. Jack MacKinnon had a stellar night in goal with 18 saves.

P.E. teacher Mr. Iacobucci commented: "In the past 35 years at O'Connell, I've attended hundreds of athletic games, but I can't remember any that made me more proud of our student body than at Kettler Friday night. The least of which was the thorough thrashing our guys gave to a very good Stone Bridge hockey team. The immense showing of our students in their red, white, and BLUE, colors were laughing, cheering, waving the America flag, and literally breaking bread (pizza) among one another. It was an awesome display of good, clean fun by our Catholic school students in a very public environment. Congratulations to our hockey team and all that were involved in this event."

The Knights also defeated Freedom High School on Wed. Nov 22. Alex Vouras had a hat trick, and following those three goals was Josh Hitesman's two goals for a final score of 6-1. Assists were made by Victor Musoke(2), Brendan Fielman, Keenan Murphy, and Garrison O'Donnell. O'Connell out-shot Freedom 51 to 8! Goalie Peter Sjoberg had a quiet night, only allowing one Freedom goal

Next varsity home game is Friday, Dec. 8 at 8:10 p.m. Pack Kettler!
