As we host Landon Friday afternoon at 3:15 p.m, O'Connell fans and students are excited for a rare Friday game... We expect the Knights O-Zone to be in full force!

Coach Disch's Game Recap vs. Benedictine

"This past Friday we traveled to Benedictine for a 4:30 p.m. start. It was a competitive game in the 1st quarter, with Benedictine leading 7-0. However, in the second quarter we had a few key injuries which forced us to alter our offensive game plan. Benedictine was able to take advantage by creating pressure on our QB. We moved the ball effectively down the field, but had a costly turnover in the red zone and then stalled on two other drives.Defensively, we had too many missed tackles, which led to big plays. Our players showed resilience and played the entire 48 minutes with maximum effort. We created three turnovers and several times seized the momentum, but couldn't sustain it. Our lone score came from a Kickoff return for a touchdown. The final score was 48-7." Coach Disch's 'Word Of The Week' was Commitment, and his players did just that on the field, despite the loss.

Players of the Week for last week were: Jack Murphy (defense), Patrick Tessier and Jahmal Banks (special teams), and David Green (practice player)

Varsity Field Hockey's Nail-Biting Win!

On Monday, the Varsity Field Hockey team went into a nerve-racking sudden death, double overtime with WCAC rival St. Mary's Ryken. Aubrey Donohue scored the first goal at the 24 minute mark of the second half to tie the game 1-1. As the official time ran out, overtime began and neither team could score. A second overtime was called, and DJO senior defender, Camille Seldin scored the final goal to win the game 2-1 for The Knights! This is the first time in school history that the field hockey program has beaten St. Mary's Ryken! Check out Tommy Orndorff's blog post in "The Week That Was" highlighting the lady Knights.
