Who is eligible?

Students who are enrolled in the classes of 2020 and 2021 are eligible to be excused from one 0.5 credit PE class with two seasons of sports participation.

How many seasons of sports excuse a student from PE credit requirements?

Students who participate in two seasons of sports can be excused from 0.5 credit of PE.

Am I required to participate in sports for PE credit?

No, students are not required to participate in sports to earn PE credit.

If I participate in four seasons of sports, am I done with PE?

Students who have participated in four seasons of sports can be excused from their PE requirement, but will still need to meet the health requirement.

If I participate in sports for PE credit, do I still have to take the Health class?

YEs, all students are still required to complete the Health 1 class at Bishop O'Connell.

Does it have to be the same sport?

No, students can participate in different sports in order to be excused from the PE credit. Students can also participate in the same sport over multiple years.

Do I have all four years to complete the PE requirement through sports?

Yes, students use all four years to be excused from the PE requirement. students who want to use sports in their senior year must receive approval from the Dean of Academics.

What if I play a sport not offered at O'Connell?

Students may request prior approval from the Dean of Academics for sports such as gymnastics, equestrian or other programs to satisfy the PE requirement.

What if I play a sport at O'Connell and travel league or AAU in the off-season?

Participation will only count for the O'Connell season, not the travel season. Participation in AAU, recreational league or CYO leagues does not count.
