By The Numbers
Great things happen every day at Bishop O'Connell High School. Take a look a few accomplishments over the past year:
Total dollars in college scholarships and grants awarded to the Class of 2017.
Dollars raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation over the last 42 years of student-organized Superdance 12-hour dance marathons.
Cans of hearty soup collected for Christ House in Alexandria during the fall 2016 drive.
AP Scholars named at Bishop O'Connell, based on the May 2017 Advanced Placement exams. This number includes 8 National AP Scholars, 38 AP Scholars with Distinction and 17 AP Scholars with Honors.
Alumni now serving as priests or religious. In addition to this number, there are four O'Connell alumni who are currently preparing for the priesthood.
Students receiving college credit from Marymount University. This represents the number of seniors who graduated with credits earned from a dual credit/dual enrollment course in 2017.
Speech or essay contest awards. O'Connell students were recognized by outside organizations at the local and state level in 2016-2017. Five students qualified to compete at the national level, after winning competitions at the local, state and regional levels.
Number of Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered.
Student-athletes committed to playing their sports at the college level from the class of 2017.
Members of the class of 2017 receiving a Global Studies Certificate at graduation.These students completed the equivalent of a ninth semester of work through beyond-the-classroom experiences and a capstone project.
Newly renovated science classrooms since 2012, including three chemistry labs, three biology labs, three physics and engineering classrooms.
Members of the class of 2016 who enrolled at Ivy League schools: Brown University (1), Columbia University (1) and Harvard University (3).
